That's a view of the greenhouse...which is pretty full! We've got lots to plant right now! This week the cabbage (red, savoy and green), broccoli and lettuce are on the list. Plus seeding some more carrots (we seeded 3000 linear feet of carrots last week!). I think next week, we've got beans, beets1 read more »

Week 5 -- Summer days

Posted on July 12th, 2021
The dry days of May and June seem far away. We've had about 6 inches of rain in the past two weeks. And it looks like there is lots more on the way this week. What a contrast. While this can make preparing beds for seeding and planting a bit challenging, it certainly helps those seeds and plants ge1 read more »

Week 4 -- The second planting season begins

Early July and the second planting season is starting! While there is the big spring rush of planting (all of May!) and there are crops that we plant continuously throughout the season (lettuce, bok choi, chicories, beets, herbs), July is when plant and seed for autumn! Week 3 -- we had LOTS of rain!

Posted on June 28th, 2021
It started last Friday and by Saturday evening we had received 3 1/2 inches of rain! The relief was immense and my heart sang with gratitude! Posted on May 2nd, 2021
Somehow April flew past. A lot of seeds were planted and both greenhouses are rather full at the moment. Once the rain passes this week, we'll be out planting and seeding in the field. The direct seeded crops on the to do list for this coming week include spinach, radish, arugula, turnip and rapin1 read more »

April Lambs

Posted on April 6th, 2021
April is being accompanied by another Covid wave here in Ontario. Challenging times for most people. So here is some good spring news from the farm. Many of the ewes are gigantic and look quite uncomfortable -- I remember that feeling from when I was expecting. And late last week, the first lambs w1 read more »

March Rains

Posted on March 26th, 2021
After a dry March, the rain is pouring down today. Almost all the snow has melted, even in our veggie field, which is usually the last to be snow-free. And that means the soil is very vulnerable to erosion at this point in the year, when few living plants are growing in the soil and holding the soi1 read more »
