Week 7 -- Lughnasadh

Posted on July 25th, 2022 by Kristine Hammel

It's almost August! Yikes and Yipeee!

Yikes because summer is flying past so fast! Yippee because August means cooler nights and shorter days and that makes growing veg a lot easier.

August 1 marks the halfway point between summer solstice (June 21) and autumn equinox (September 21). It has been celebrated by many cultures around the world. In Ireland it was and still is known as Lughnasadh. And marks the start of the harvest season. We have been harvesting for months, but the beginning of August does mark the start of the best time in the garden -- many different crops are reaching a crescendo.

By the way. Have you ever had anything in your share that you weren't happy with? Please let us know! We work hard to grow and pack the best veg. But sometimes, something slips past us. We want to know. So that we can make it up to you and see if any of our systems need tweaking. Giving us feedback (good and bad) makes you a very valuable partner in nurturing local food systems.

Have a great week!
