Farm Happenings for March 12, 2019

Posted on March 8th, 2019 by Kimberly Decker

Flowers: We love growing flowers and sharing them with you.  Ranunculus are are sometimes called spring roses.  With their papery petals, they add color and beauty everywhere they are!  Ranunculus are planted in the fall and grow all winter long inside a protected structure and then start blooming in late winter/early spring.  Once temperatures hit 80 for a few days in a row, they stop blooming (which happens pretty soon around here since they are in a green house!) Consider ordering a bouquet through Harvie for your enjoyment!

Soil: We are hoping the cold is mostly behind us at this point!  Now we are waiting for the soil to dry out enough that we can make beds to plant the first outside crops of lettuce, kale, broccoli and beets.  The greenhouse is full of transplants anxiously waiting for more space outside in the wide world!

Chicks: We added 100 meat bird chicks, 50 laying bird chicks, and 4 ducklings to the farm this week! There's lots of cute fuzzies around and little peeps!

Summer CSA: We are still selling shares of veggies, bread, flowers, fruit, goat cheese, chicken and beef.  Check it out!

Winter CSA: We are on distribution #8 this week.  (there's 12 total) The last winter CSA Tuesday delivery is May 7 (and Saturday delivery is May 11).  Don't forget about your 12 hours of work share.  Come out on Tuesday CSA days or Saturday work days (April 20 and May 4.)
