The rain this week has been a delicious treat!  Especially this cloudy cool day, but the whole week, even the really hot days and humid nights, have felt more full of promise and growth than the previous two weeks, when the ground was dusty and cracked.  We have lots of irrigation, and most of it is automated to some degree, but it always seems like there is no substitute for real rain, coming from the sky directly into the soil and washing the dust off the leaves and the farmers ;-).  So it was a great week for us, despite some oppressive heat.

We seeded some fall crops (not much yet, just a few radishes and a late succession of sweet corn), and we prepped lots of beds for seeding soon, as we start to plant carrots, lettuce, spinach, fennel, and later transplant broccoli, cauliflower, cabbages, and others.  Prepping beds a few weeks in advance allows us to get good weed control, which is a key to successful fall growing, so this is a priority this time of year.  Meanwhile, I hope you're enjoying this little slice of cool in the middle of a hot summer, and I hope you enjoy all the delicious leeks, potatoes, cherry tomatoes, basil, and other veggies.

Thank you for choosing us to be your farmers.
