CSA Week 23

Posted on November 5th, 2020 by Amy Philson

The season is almost over!  Only this week and next left in the current CSA season.  Or if you're an every-other-week member, this could be your final week.  Our season ends November 18/19, one week before Thanksgiving.

We are continuing sign-ups for Winter CSA, but due to a smaller quantity of veggies available in the winter we must limit our delivery area to our largest pickup locations.  If you live near Butler, Franklin, Grove City, Hermitage, Meadville, or Slippery Rock, you can take advantage of our Winter CSA.  Delivery is only twice/month, with storage crops like squash and potatoes and fresh greens like lettuce and kale, as well as other local farm products like mushrooms, maple syrup, honey, cheese, eggs, and baked goods.  You will still have the opportunity to customize your share before each delivery, so if you love squash but don't want potatoes, you can build your box to your liking.

I want to say a huge THANK YOU to all of you.  I think this has been a year of challenges for all of us.  COVID sent our CSA membership and Webstore sales skyrocketing in the spring.  We were in the midst of changing software systems, moving over to Harvie so we could offer customized shares.  We added several pickup locations as well as home delivery this year.  We expanded from one to two days of delivery (it had been several years since we delivered two days/week).  So thank you for your understanding and support as we grew through this challenging year.  We have had our share of errors including packing errors, too few products delivered by our farmers, and inferior products.  I hope that we were able to make all the errors right if it happened to you.  If not, please let me know so we can.

Turkeys:  If you are looking for a local, pastured turkey for Thanksgiving, time is running out.  We are almost sold out of the smaller fresh turkeys, and preorders for them need to be in by Monday.  For the larger frozen birds, you take your chances whether our farmer has any left by next weekend.  All will be delivered November 18/19.

Derek from Glacial Till Farm did a Facebook Live video this week showing us his new greenhouse.  Check it out here.

Mushrooms are on sale this week.  Due to restaurants being closed down again, Full Moon Mushrooms has extras.  1 lb. bags are $1.00 off, and 1/4 lb. are 50 cents off their normal price.

Dinner Bell Farm is offering Carrot Cake Cupcakes with Cream Cheese Icing and Classic Chocolate Chip Cookies this week.

Enjoy the beautiful weather this weekend.  Your farmers are taking full advantage of it, getting lots of outside projects completed before winter.

On behalf of your NWPA Growers farmers,
