CSA Week 22

Posted on October 29th, 2020 by Amy Philson

Farming in the fall and winter brings different challenges than summer work.  With the decreasing daylight, our farmers will often wear headlamps to harvest and prep produce.  The photo is of Glacial Till Farm's spinach harvest inside their new high tunnel.  Derek had planted spinach and kale in the beds and then built the tunnel over the existing crops to extend their season.

Winter CSA

Have you heard the news?  Our Winter CSA sign-ups are now live.  With limited numbers of Winter CSA memberships available and only one month before it begins, you will want to sign up before we sell out.  Unfortunately for some of you, we only deliver to our largest pickup locations in the winter due to limited produce available:  Butler, Franklin, Grove City, Hermitage, Meadville, and Slippery Rock.  Our Winter CSA shares will be customized just like the current boxes, so if beets is on your bad veggie list, you won't have to feel guilty about them languishing in your fridge until you throw them away.  Besides veggies, we will have other farm products in Winter shares, too.

Auto Renew:  If you are set up for auto renew and currently pick up at one of the Winter CSA locations, your membership is set to renew in a few days.  Click here to check your status or make changes.

If you're not close to our Winter locations, look for our announcement about Spring and Summer CSA in early 2021.

Turkeys:  We still have turkeys available for preorder.  The smaller ones are almost sold out, but we still have lots of larger turkeys.  Think leftovers for quick meals this winter!  Roasted winter veggies along with warmed up turkey is one of my favorites.  These turkeys are raised all-naturally with GMO-free feed, no antibiotics or hormones, and no added ingredients at butcher time.  You will definitely taste the difference!

Baked goods this week from Dinner Bell Farm include Mom's Italian Bread, Applesauce Cookies, and Pumpkin Scones.  Yum!

Customize your share anytime before 8 a.m. Monday.  That's also the time that our Webstore closes, so be sure to check that out, too.

Have a great fall weekend!  And don't forget to set your clocks back.
