Garlic planting time!!!

Posted on November 4th, 2019 by Curtis Millsap

We've planted most of the garlic for next season in the past few days;  we currently have about 5,000 cloves planted, and each clove should make a head by next June.  This is always a big task, and we find that once it's finished, it's a big load off our plate; it's one of the last timely tasks of the season. Most remaining tasks are weather determined, like harvesting early in a week that is calling for snow or ice, or looking for the warmest days of the week to get the outside crops harvested.  Others are just done as time and conditions allow, like shaping beds for next spring;  this can be done anytime between now and February, as long as the soil is reasonably dry, and not frozen...  Anyway, it's a relief to be getting close to the end of garlic planting, and to start looking forward to the slower days of fall and winter. One more step to finishing the season strong.

Thanks,

Curtis
