Fall Delights

Posted on November 4th, 2022 by Kimberly Decker

The nights are cool, the days are warm, and the leaves are falling; we love it.  The cabbages, daikon, turnips, sweet potatoes, and carrots are all sweet reminders of the benefits of fall weather; as the nights cool, the sugars increase in all these plants, leaving them sweet and crisp, and delightfully flavorful.  We love to roast fall veggies and serve it with a napa slaw, or a spinach salad, and the winter squash make a wonderful creamy soup to round out the meal.  So dig in, enjoy the bounty of the season, and try something new.

Also, please remember that we want your leaves!  if you rake your leaves, we would love to be the recipients of these colorful tokens of the season; we use them to keep our pigs, earthworms, and vegetables happy over the winter, and they are a key component of our soil-building program here on the farm, so bring them out; there are signs down the drive showing you where to take them.  Visit the pigs while you're out there, and toss them any left over jack'o lanterns you might have, you'll make their day.   We ask that you leave only leaves, please take your bags back home with you.  Grass and other garden debri are great, but please no sticks or brush larger than your thumb. Thanks for helping us feed our soil, and fill your CSA boxes.

Thanks,

Curtis
