Farm Happenings for November 5, 2021

Posted on November 2nd, 2021 by Kimberly Decker

Hi CSA Friends! We are preparing for the first killing frost this week!  We've harvested some veggies to store in the coolers and covered other plants with row cover to keep them extra protected from the freeze.  We have a couple days of cooling down - which is what we like to see as farmers - it gives the plants a heads up that it's getting cold and they start storing sugars in preparation for colder temperatures.  When plants do this, they #1 taste better and #2 they can handle colder temperatures better - the sugar acts as an "antifreeze" of sorts and protects the plants cells from freezing and bursting.

Curtis promised to talk about why we grow organic this week - but he will pick that up next week instead! Curtis and a bunch of the farm crew had the opportunity to go backpacking the last two days and enjoy the changing leaves!

Also - for those of you who are every other week pickups and this week is the first one for the fall extended season for you - here's some details!

Welcome to the Millsap Farms Fall CSA share.  If you're new to the CSA, welcome, and thanks for joining us this fall for some fabulous fall bounty.  If you're continuing from the summer share, there's a couple of key differences you need to be aware of.

1. All on-farm pickups are on Fridays NOT Tuesday!  we will pack your box and you can pick up out of the cooler from Friday at 4 pm through Monday mid-day. Please be aware that if you don't pickup your share by Monday afternoon, we will find other homes for it, either by donating it to Ozarks Food Harvest, or by reincorporating the more durable items into the farm inventory for the following week.  If you need to pickup your share after Monday, for whatever reason, please email us or send me a text, and we'll continue to hold it; we're always glad to do this, and it's no hardship at all, we just don't have the extra space to store shares indefinitely without some idea of when they will be picked up.

 2. If you receive a home delivery, that will be delivered Saturday between 8am and 2pm.  If you have provided a phone number for your share, you'll get a text when your share has been delivered.

3. If you pickup in the Rountree neighborhood (Fremont address), then you will pickup Fridays between 4 and 6pm

4. Farmers Market pickup will continue to be from 8-1 Saturdays at our stall at Farmer Market of The Ozarks.

5.  The one exception to all this is the week of Thanksgiving, when everything will happen on Wednesday, the 24th.

6. Due to the altered time frame, each week's harvest estimate will go out on Tuesday, and you will have until Wednesday at 11pm to swap, purchase extras, or otherwise alter your shares.

7.  For every other week shares:  Every so often, Harvie has a glitch, and schedules your fruit/cheese/egg/or vegetables on alternating weeks instead of the same weeks.  If this seems to be the case for you, please email us asap, and we'll get it fixed in a jiffy.

If you need assistance at any point, emailing Support@harvie.farm is usually the most reliable way to get CSA share questions answered.  Also feel free to email or text Curtis at any point as well; 4178390847, millsapfarms@gmail.com

Thanks!
