Farm Happenings for September 28, 2021

Posted on September 24th, 2021 by Kimberly Decker

Important;  We had to postpone the auto-renew until Monday, due to several technical issues.  We currently plan to autorenew on Monday, with charges being finalized on Thursday.  Sorry for any difficulty this may cause you, it was not what I had planned, but that's technology for you...

Boy, fall certainly arrived with gusto this week!  We've been loving the cool weather, a little rain, and sleeping with the down comforter pulled up.  The warm weather crops, like tomatoes, peppers, eggplant, and basil, are looking a little sad about the situation, but the cabbages, cauliflower, broccoli, and daikon are cranking out the new growth, and starting to accumulate sugars, as they do when the weather cools.  The compost piles are steaming on the chilly mornings, and we're starting to empty outside beds in anticipation of cover crops (rye, peas, vetch, and others) planted to build and preserve the soil over winter. Of course, we're also still planting, and will have lots of greens, radishes, turnips, cabbages, etc., to put in boxes for the next three months, as we head toward winter.  I hope you are looking forward to changing leaves, campfires, and crisp mornings as much as we are.  Happy fall.
