What a way to experience the 20th of April!!!  While the snow on the blooming redbuds is spectacularly beautiful, and the huge flakes are amazing, it's also a bit nerve wracking for farmers who have already planted squash, tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, and lots of other crops...  We all spent the morning moving plants inside, covering outside and inside, sandbagging covers down, distributing propane heaters and tanks, and sealing up buildings.  It was an all-hands-on-deck kind of a morning, but it's all done now, and all that's left is checking heaters, doors, and temperatures, while we retreat to the desk and the warm greenhouse to get paperwork done, and seed more plants.

I think we'll come through without any real damage done, but this is certainly one of those times when Community Supported Agriculture shines; we have the resources, from funds provided by our members, to purchase row covers, propane, and heaters to keep everthing warm and alive.  If we didn't have the support of our membership, we would likely have to use credit cards or some other form of credit to purchase these early season supplies, leaving our farm at a much greater risk of loss if the temperatures drop far below the forecast, or a hailstorm strikes, or any one of a dozen other catastrophes.

If you haven't signed up for Community Supported Agriculture yet, today is three weeks from the first vegetable distribution, and we'd love to get you joined up so we can accurately anticipate the demand.  Here's the link:  https://www.harvie.farm/farm/millsap-farms/signup

Also, if you have any friends who you think might be a good match for CSA, please feel free to forward them this message, or any other, or share our website, www.millsapfarms.com, or my phone number 839-0847.  We've got a few spaces left, and we'd love to start the season with a full roster.

Meanwhile, once we get past this little temperature dip this week, it's looking really good for gardening in the ten day forecast, and we've got some really great garden plants, including a wide selection of tomatoes (cherry and slicers), herbs, peppers, squash, cucumbers, hanging baskets of strawberries which are just starting to ripen, lots of hanging baskets full of petunias, and flowers for your garden beds.  We're open self-service from dawn til dusk self-service, and we are usually around the greenhouse from 9ish-5ish, so come see us.

Here's to a beautiful snowy day, and to warm weather in the forecast.

Thanks,

Farmer Curtis
