Farm Happenings for June 16, 2018

Posted on June 7th, 2018 by Curtis Millsap

Welcome to the summer CSA 2018.  This will be pickup #6, but it's the first one that has had a space for us to include our newsletter in the harvest estimate e-mail.  We're excited to get back to having weekly news from the farm, and you can expect for us to have a newsletter component in the e-mails you receive from us!

A few words about how the new system is working; from the farm perspective, this has been a big improvement over the old system for a couple of reasons: We can now list very small quantities of things we just don't have enough of for everybody, like Lemon Thyme, or sugar snap peas, or arugula, and know that they will be taken by the folks who really want them.  It also reassures us to know that you aren't going to be receiving veggies you really don't like, even if you never swap a thing.  We love the flexibility this has given us in our share; we are offering a greater number, and more diverse selections than we ever could have before, more accurately reflecting our diverse farmscape.  Look for this to continue, as we offer unusual items like Purslane, Amaranth, Rhubarb, and others this summer.  Secondly, the software gives us a lot more flexibility in building the shares, so we don't have to sweat it over exactly how many bundles of radishes to harvest for the half share, or how many heads of lettuce are needed for samplers versus wholes; we can put in what we know we have available to harvest, and then let your preferences, plus the software, sort out how it gets distributed.

We are aware that Harvie has been an adjustment from the veteran member perspective, and like all change, has good and bad elements.  We hope that, like us, the good outweighs the bad.  Please feel free to share feedback with us, either through e-mail, text, call, or when you see us at the pickup.   We really want to know how it's working for you, the good, the bad, and the ugly.  We've already changed several things about how we set the shares up on our end based on member feedback, and want to serve you the best way we can.

Thanks for choosing us to be your farmers,

Farmer Curtis
