Dear Spoon Full Farm Family,

I (Mericos) am filled with gratitude, for two beautiful reasons.

First: for three seasons, I’ve had the privilege of helping to provide a CSA for you, and as we approach the end of this season, I’m reflecting on an unexpected lesson about the concept of “CSA.” The words “Community-Supported Agriculture” typically refer to the payment system: members pay up front, to help small farms plant and tend their fields, before harvest revenues come in. What I’ve learned, while getting to know you, is that the community support is much more than financial. The support comes in the form of laughter, encouragement, critiques, and smiles. You’ve nourished me at least as much as my delivery of Spoon Full food (there’s a whole amazing team who grows it) has nourished your family. Thank you.

Second: we have an incredible replacement for me, at my job. Yes, I’m leaving the farm this fall, to go to graduate school in sustainable agriculture, at Oregon State. And so, gradually, I am passing the “Spoon Full Community Grower" baton along to a passionate young woman named Justina. You may know Justina from an introduction she wrote a few weeks ago, or maybe you’ve met her at a market. If you know her, you’re lucky! She brings care, flair, and a sense of what’s fair to everything she does. She appears to be more organized than I am. Which is good. SO while it’s bitter for me to say ta-ta for now, it’s sweet to know that somebody with passion will be serving you. Thanks in advance for bearing with us on our learning curve (I’ve never trained anybody to take over my job before!), and congratulations on having this opportunity to get to know Justina.

I hope to see you around, before I go!

With Love,
Mericos
