CSA Week 13, Aug 31-Sept 1

Posted on August 25th, 2022 by Amy Philson

August ends this week...already!  We march on toward fall.  But we still have half of our CSA season ahead of us, which means lots more fresh veggies and other farm products for you!

Some of you received a sample from The Way Nature Intended in your last box.  We had enough for about half the boxes.  They wanted to give samples so you can try their products since it's so difficult to know what you're buying from a pic on a website.  Let us know if you have questions, or message them through their FB page.

In case you ordered corn for your box delivered 8/24 or 8/25 and you didn't see my email about it, Detweiler Farm's sweet corn wasn't quite ready to pick, so it wasn't in anyone's boxes.  I added a credit to everyone's account for the missed corn.

I will be opening the Farm Stand this weekend for the first time this season, so I recommend customizing your share Friday morning before the prime veggies are gone.  Check back again Saturday or Sunday for last-minute tweaks.

This week's features:

  • Sweet corn from Detweiler Farm.  Remember that our corn is not sprayed with pesticides, so you may find corn worms or evidence of them in your corn.
  • Premium Salad Mix is back from Glacial Till Farm!  But only 25 bags.  Spur Hollow Farm also has Seasonal Salad Mix which is very similar.
  • Mushrooms!  Blue Oyster, Lions Mane, and Shiitake.
  • Hummus!  Roasted Beet, Curry, Jalapeno-Cilantro, Rosemary, and Sun-Dried Tomato
  • Baked goods this week are Chocolate Chip Cookies and Lemon Pound Cake.

Autumn asked a question about recipes on our Instagram and Facebook pages.  Care to comment?  You can read mine on FB.  And while you're there, share a pic of something you made with your CSA share!

A note for the future:  the share customization period will end early afternoon on Sunday on 9/25, 10/9, and 10/16.  I will remind everyone in the coming weeks, but if you wait to customize your share until Sunday night, then you might want to make a note of this.  I will not be working on those Mondays, so I will need to get orders to our farmers early.

Have a great week.
