Week 13 -- Where's the rain?

Posted on September 5th, 2022 by Kristine Hammel

Hello September, new rhythms and learning!

We continue to manage, as best we can, a very dry season. Despite occasional rains, the land is parched. Fortunately, a few crops have really enjoyed this weather. Wowsers are the tomatoes lovely this September! And the autumn crops are arriving...with the first broccoli and cabbages joining the kale in the line up this week.

And, it is a joy to see all the creatures with whom we share this land. The garden is home to lots of insects (like the monarch caterpillars pictured last week), plus amphibians and reptiles. Including some very big toads! They are a sign of ecosystem health. Yes, there are challenges in growing, but also joys!
