Winter/Spring CSA Week 10 - April 12

Posted on April 4th, 2023 by Amy Philson

...SALAD MIX!!!  Sweet corn barely beat out carrots in Round 3, so that pitted sweet corn against Glacial Till Farm's popular salad mix, so it wasn't really a contest at that point.  Thank you to all who participated in our contest.  Toyia Gaver is the winner of a $10 store credit.

You're receiving this email early this week because I will be out of town and unable to access my internet from Wednesday evening until Saturday night.  Since crops are easier to forecast this time of year, our farmers had their crop estimates to me early enough to do all of my preliminary work before I leave town.  So you have two extra days to plan your CSA share for next week.  You will still receive a reminder email Sunday evening if you forget to customize.

I will be off work next Wednesday, too, so your farmers will be packing boxes without me.  If there is anything wrong with your box next week, please email me so we can make it right.

There is lots going on at our farms lately.  Lots of seeds being started in greenhouses, babies being born and chicks hatched, and getting our gardens cleaned up and ready for planting.

We've had a couple of intense Saturdays with the high winds, but I haven't heard about any major damage on any of our farms.  We had to hook up a generator to keep the fridge and freezer going at our packing facility, but that is minor compared to what some have been coping with.  We're thankful for minimal damage, and we pray for those who were hurt or suffered devastating losses.

This week's features

The new jams and jarred goods from Tait Farm Foods are a real hit.  Be sure to check them out!

  • Greens this week include bibb lettuce, spinach, and arugula.  Get 'em quick before they're spoken for!
  • Hummus flavors of the week are Caramelized Onion and Jalapeno Cilantro.
  • It's egg season, so stock up on this great source of protein.  Egg production peaks in the spring, so farmers are often overloaded with eggs this time of year.

For a sweet treat, my family loves this Mexican Chocolate Flan.

Have a great week.  Happy Easter to those who celebrate it, and Chag Sameach Pesach to those who observe Passover.
