CSA Week 21 October 26-27

Posted on October 20th, 2022 by Amy Philson

We had a taste of winter, and now we're going back to almost summery temps.  Your farmers are constantly changing how they are caring for the produce in their fields based on what the weather is doing.  Row cover on and off, greenhouse open or closed, picking veggies that are susceptible to freezing, and more.  Plus they are prepping their beds for their winter's rest and planting garlic this month.

This Week's Features

New products from The Way Nature Intended:

  • Sugar Scrub in Pumpkin Spice and Candy Cane scents
  • Exfoliating Foot Scrub
  • Pup Skin Soother for your best friend's itchy and dry spots
  • Intensive Care Body Cream has been repackaged in a new size

All of their products are made with all-natural oils, butters, and essential oils so you can feel good about what you're putting on your skin.  If you have ordered their Vanilla Lip Balm this fall and it has an off flavor, please let us know so we can replace it.  It seems that some people are sensitive to this batch of vanilla essential oil (including me!).

Shiitakes from Viele Farm as well as Lions Mane, King Trumpet, and Blue Oyster mushrooms from Full Moon Mushrooms.

We just added Chicken Backs and Chicken Feet for making all the yummy broth for fall soups.

Farm News

Glacial Till Farm shared an updated Google Maps image of their fields.  Derek spends tons of time planning and managing crop rotations in these beds to achieve healthy soil that will grow the most nutritious veggies.

If you're missing some of your favorite "extra" products from the CSA lineup, we will be restocking in the next two weeks.  Nut butters, pasta, cheese, and all the things are coming back.  I've been working 15-16 hour days the last couple of weeks, so reordering from our outside vendors was placed on hold.  They're not gone, just out of stock.  My family's store, Philson & Friends Artisanal Wares, is open through December.  The store is filled with locally-made products to support small, family-owned and home-based businesses.  Come see us!

Have a great weekend with the gorgeous fall weather that's on tap!
