CSA Week 19 October 12-13

Posted on October 6th, 2022 by Amy Philson

I apologize for the late start this week.  My family returned from a few days out of town late yesterday afternoon, and I had to get our Friday crew settled at Applefest in Franklin on Friday morning.

We have two more weeks that share customization will end at 3 PM.  After that, we will be back to our normal 11 PM closing time.

This week's features

  • Butternut squash and Delicata squash make their debut for this year.  Detweiler Farm has not had a good squash-growing year, so they will probably run out of squash earlier this winter.
  • Mushrooms and mushroom jerky from Full Moon Mushrooms
  • Hummus flavors this week are Jalapeno Cilantro, Lemon, and Pumpkin

Farm News

Glacial Till Farm:  The changing seasons bring adaptations for our produce growers.  With fewer daylight hours they have to find other ways to get the work done—head lamps, etc!  But what could top this work environment!?  Free art show by nature while you work.

Spur Hollow Farm:  Jeff is keeping their beds of greens in tip-top shape as we go into the fall season.

Delicata squash is my favorite for a quick side dish for dinner.  Since the skin is edible, there is no time spent peeling the squash.  Here's a great fall salad to try that pairs sweet squash with peppery arugula and salty feta.  Roasted Delicata Squash, Pomegranate and Arugula Salad

If you're looking for something fun to do this weekend, come see us at Applefest in Franklin.  The festival has two parks filled with hand-crafted items from vendors around the area.  You can find Philsons Bushel & a Peck Farm's maple products and The Way Nature Intended's body and pet products in Bandstand park near the stage.  The festival runs Friday - Sunday.

Have a great fall weekend!
