Farm Stand September 7-8

Posted on September 2nd, 2022 by Amy Philson

If you would like to place a one-time Farm Stand order that will be ready for pick-up on September 7 or 8, click here.  Below is the newsletter that was sent to CSA subscribers this week.

Summer is winding down and the kids are starting to go back to school. The sun is sadly setting earlier and rising later.  BUT...regardless how you feel about summer coming to a close, you can feel good about the new treats that our fields are still bringing you each week.

This week's features:

  • Cantaloupe:  only 25 available this week from Detweiler Farm, so they aren't prefilled in anyone's box.  You will have to swap them in...if you're quick enough!
  • Premium Salad Mix from Glacial Till Farm is back!  Spur Hollow Farm also has a Seasonal Salad Mix with more kale and arugula with the lettuce.
  • Pasta:  Our next shipment from Vera Pasta is on its way to us, so it should be here by delivery day.
  • Fish:  we have replenished our fish inventory, including salmon burgers, cod, and pollock.  If you loved the keta salmon, they are out until this fall's fishing trip to Alaska, so try the King Salmon portions.

Farmer News

Glacial Till Farm:  After several weeks with no Premium Salad Mix in CSA boxes, we have finally overcome our recent salad mix challenges.  September is looking like salad month!

Spur Hollow Farm:  Planting out salad mix, head lettuce, and winter kale on a hot August day! Waiting on some much needed rain.  All of these transplants went into the ground in the past few days.

The Way Nature Intended:

The Way Nature Intended has been a member of the NWPA Growers Co-op now for several years. We have decided to hand out samples of our products so that you may have an opportunity to try them. They will be put in random boxes this week and next. We hope you enjoy your samples.
This week's samples include magnesium cream, arnica pain relieving salve, soothing butter lotion in either vanilla or lavender.

Magnesium Cream is great for post-workout muscle aches, but it is also wonderful for restless legs, muscle spasms, cramping and tension, aids in sleep, certain post-surgical complications and safe for babies. You can use it regularly if you know you have spasm issues to help prevent the issue from even occurring.

Arnica is used topically for a wide range of conditions, including bruising, sprains, muscle aches, wound healing, joint pain, swelling and inflammation. Cayenne pepper is added to the salve because it helps to draw the blood flow to the injured area to aid in healing. Local beeswax is added in the end to finish off the salve. The arnica will liquify in your hands and rub into the muscles smoothly. I personally take it to be used during my massage sessions.

We hope enjoy your samples. Have a great day and thanks for supporting local business.

Reminders and Tips:

Upcoming Schedule Change:  The share customization period will end early on 9/25, 10/9, and 10/16.  I will be off those Mondays, so I need to report sales to our farmers early.  If you typically wait until Sunday night to customize your share, be aware of these dates.

Check your preferences: your box will be automatically filled with the vegetables that you prefer, or in the case of a Market Box, it will be filled with all of your preferences.  You can now swap items out with anything in the market. Sometimes our swaps are limited so it is best to have your box filled with your preferences on the first pass. You can even change your preferences throughout the season.

Customize: Once you receive this email, you can now customize your box.  Now you can swap any and all items in your box and add extra items you like from our ever-growing selection of high-quality organic foods and products.  Simply add them to your box and your card will be charged upon finalization of your order. The customization window will close at 11pm on Sunday.

Add another item to your cart:  Check to see if you have "more value" left in your share by going to customization - click on your cart - then click back to the items. If a green bar appears that says you can add items because you have left over value in your share, try adding another veggie or low cost item to your cart to see.

**Be sure to return clean milk bottles.  You can throw the caps away.  And if you want to return any egg cartons, plastic clamshells, etc., we will reuse them.

** If you have any questions about customizing your box, billing or your account, contact Harvie support. Any other questions, contact me! Read help doc How Swaps Work  and How Preferences Work help doc.
