CSA Week 5 - July 6-7

Posted on June 30th, 2022 by Amy Philson

We have lots of new things going on right now.  Here are a few updates:

  • Moose Farm has a fresh batch of chickens, so we added legs, thighs, and smaller breasts to the store.
  • Fresh shipment from Wild for Salmon including cod, shrimp, pollock, and salmon patties.
  • If you missed it last week, Olive & Marlowe joined us with several varieties of California olive oil and vinegars.
  • Also added last week, organic peanut butter and almond butter from a family-owned company in Georgia.
  • Clarion River Organics is back with salsa and jarred peppers.
  • Beelzebub Salsa isn't currently making fresh salsa, but they are offering four flavors of hummus this week.
  • We are now carrying the entire line of dry pasta from Vera Pasta made in eastern PA.
  • Mimi's Backwoods Bakery is back from vacation with Dark Chocolate Chip Walnut Cookies and fresh Blueberry Bread.

New veggies this week:

  • Summer squash
  • Zucchini
  • Cucumbers
  • Carrots are back (only 20 bunches!)
  • Mushrooms are back: lions mane and blue oyster

How to Customize Your Share

Your weekly share budget is a few dollars less than what you pay because of the delivery fee and an administrative fee for Harvie.  For example, a Small Share has a budget of $27.00.  The prebuilt share is very close to that budget, but when you start swapping, adding, and removing items in your cart, it's easy to lose track of what's in there.  You can see all the details when you click on the cart icon in the upper right corner of your screen.  Of course, you can go over your budget and add additional items to your cart, which will simply increase the charge to your credit card on file.  A few members have chosen not to associate a card with your account, so you can prepay for extras or simply stay within your budget each week.  If you're under your budget, look for this green banner on your customization page and be sure to use up your budget to get the full value of your box!

Is your fridge overwhelmed with greens?  Here's a great kale salad to try.  It's simple, and you can add things to dress it up like nuts, cranberries or blueberries, scallions or red onions, even chickpeas for some protein.

Have a great Independence Day weekend.  Your farmers will be busy working all weekend, but we will carve out some time to enjoy the festivities with our families.
