Winter/Spring CSA Week 13 - May 25

Posted on May 19th, 2022 by Amy Philson

We're at our final week of the Winter/Spring season.  Summer CSA begins in two weeks!  If you've been procrastinating about signing up for summer, do it now!  You are now only charged for the first two weeks, and then you pay week to week after that.  This makes skipping weeks for vacations easy, and it's easier on your budget to spread out the payments.  Not sure if you're signed up?  Check your past and current subscriptions here.  Don't forget that when your friends sign up for CSA using your link, you both receive a credit.  So share away!

What's New

This week's shares may include

  • arugula (featured photo)
  • asparagus
  • spinach
  • rhubarb
  • fiddleheads
  • cattail shoots
  • lettuce and lettuce mix
  • hakurei turnips
  • mushrooms
  • radishes

This will be the final week for ramps, and it will likely be only the ramp bulbs.  The greens are on their way out, and with the heat this weekend they will probably not be nice for harvesting next week.

Unfortunately we lost our baker, Dinner Bell Farms.  If you know of a local baker who would like to supply bread and/or baked goods to our customers, please send them my way.

When customizing your share this week, don't forget about ingredients for Memorial Day cookouts.  Burger and sausages.  Cheese.  Deviled eggs.  Green salad with pickled veggies.

Farm News

Spur Hollow Farm:  Left to right: Zucchini, Red Cherry Tomatoes, Sungold Cherry Tomatoes, Cucumbers, Beets, Spinach. Lots of love for this warmth lately!

Glacial Till Farm

Declan is a market garden maniac. He has a keen sense of the tools required for the job and likes to tell me things I need.  He also loves dirt.

Bushel & a Peck Farm:

Looks like we're in the fig business.  We've also been caring for baby chicks, ducklings, goslings, and turkey poults, keeping their temperature right with all of this hot and cold weather.

Recipes

Not sure what to do with fiddleheads or cattail shoots?  The simplest way to prepare them is saute them with seasoning of your choice.  Or here are some recipes to try.
