CSA Week 23 November 10-11

Posted on November 4th, 2021 by Amy Philson

Wow!  We are at Week 23 of 24 already!  Where has the season gone?!?  For some of you who have every-other-week shares, this is your final week of this season's CSA.  Thank you for entrusting us with feeding your family this year. We welcome any feedback you have about your experiences with our CSA and with the Harvie website.

This week's features:

  • Premium salad mix from Glacial Till Farm
  • Spinach from Harmony Grove Farm
  • Peppers and cauliflower from Detweiler Farm
  • Baked goods from Dinner Bell Farm include Sandwich Buns, Cinnamon Cake with Walnut-Pecan Streusel, Gluten-Free Chocolate Chip Cookies, and Almond Raisin Granola.
  • Mushroom shares are Blue Oyster
  • Shiitakes from Viele Farm
  • Bacon and Canadian Bacon from Mickley Farm are available again
  • Turkeys from Moose Family Farm are still available to order.  They will be delivered Nov. 17-18 with CSA shares.

Glacial Till Farm has a limited quantity of carrots again this week.  Are you one of the lucky ones that will see them in your share?  Fall harvest days are even more beautiful with this helper around.

At Mickley Farm we have been busy digging fresh potatoes.  The potatoes in last week's shares were dug just a day or two before delivery.  We will have lots of red potatoes going into winter.  We are also planting our garlic for next year, planting cover crops and grain crops for chicken feed, and getting winter quarters ready for our animals.

Bushel and a Peck Farm has been busy on- and off-farm.  At home, we are wrapping hay bales and hoping to cut a little more late hay next week with the expected warm weather.  We move our chickens, turkeys, cows, and sheep to new pasture daily.  Off-farm, our store at Grove City Premium Outlets is well into our 5th season.  The store is filled with locally-made products from more than 30 vendors.  Come visit Philson & Friends Artisanal Wares next to Under Armour to shop locally this season.

Speaking of gifts, some of our CSA products make great gifts!  Purchase a CSA share for a family member, or fill a gift basket with honey and maple syrup.  Or for a more unconventional but practical gift, fill a box with local meats that they can enjoy all winter.  The Way Nature Intended has some nice skin care products, too.

Customize your share by 11 PM Sunday.  And tell your friends about Winter CSA where they can find local foods all year.

On behalf of your NWPA Growers farmers,

Amy Philson
