Winter CSA Week 4

Posted on January 14th, 2021 by Amy Philson

"Hello, my name is Derek, and three years ago I started Glacial Till Farm, a 2 acre, honest organic, HUMAN scale (no tractor), vegetable farm! With an insatiable desire to re-connect to the earth, the soil, and healthy seasonal food, I’ve been diligently transforming a fallow field next to my home into the farm of my dreams. A farm and process I want to share with YOU. Follow along and connect with your local farmer, and your local food."

Derek gets so excited whenever he talks about farming.  He is continually learning and trying to improve his farming methods to bring you better veggies.

We're going into our leaner months, mostly because of all the cloudy days lately.  Our greens just don't grow without sunshine, and our storage crops are starting to dwindle.  That means that almost all of our veggies go into CSA shares with very little produce options available in the Webstore.  And you will see more non-veggie items as options to fill your Farm Share until new crops come up in the spring.  But you benefit from being a CSA member because you get top priority for the veggies!

This week we have added salsa and hot peppers from Clarion River Organics as extras you can purchase.

Remember that Share Customization ends Sunday at noon, and then we will list any leftover veggies in the Webstore until Monday morning.

The weather looks blustery the next few days, so soup will be on my menu a couple of times.  I think I will make a big pot of ramen this weekend with the pea shoots that are hanging out in my fridge from last delivery.

If you're thinking about swapping out your butternut squash this time, check out this Butternut Squash and White Bean Chili.  10 minutes to throw it all in the pot, and about 30 minutes cook time.  The recipe is vegan and gluten free, or you can swap out veggie broth with chicken bone broth if that's more your style.

Stay warm and eat well!
