Week 11 update

Posted on August 13th, 2020 by Amy Philson

I sat down to type a a farm update, and I realize that I don't really have much to share.  All of your farmers are super busy on our farms, but there isn't really anything new.  Since the weather has been so dry, many are cutting and baling hay.  We are spending long hours harvesting in our fields and prepping products for sale.  We are seeding fall crops like beets and spinach.  Some fields and beds are getting cover crops to nourish the soil.  Chicken butchering comes at regular intervals on some farms.  Honey is being harvested and bottled.  So just the normal August work for most of us.

Some exciting news for some of you:  our first melons of the season will be ready this week.  We have limited quantities of watermelons and cantaloupe, so if you love melon hopefully you can snag one in your share this week.  My family sampled one of the watermelons from Detweiler Farm, and it was juicy and delicious.  Now to figure out how to fit a watermelon in your share box.  I think we will have the watermelons in a box and print a separate tag for the them just like we have for chicken and cheese shares.  When you pick up your CSA Share, be sure to take your order tags out of the sleeve on the outside of the box to remind you to retrieve all of your cold items as well as your watermelon.

This week we are featuring Cherish Creamery's goat feta cheese again as an add-on to your share.  Over on our Webstore we have a bunch of dairy products from Cherish Creamery including feta, flavored chevres, gouda, beer cheese, and drinkable yogurt.  We offer a great deal if you order any 5 of Cherish $8 products you get $5 off (just "order" the discount in the Webstore).  Webstore orders are delivered with your CSA Share, so you don't have to pay an extra delivery fee!  If you have never ordered from our Webstore before, go to this page first:  http://nwpagrowers.com/summer-webstore-information.
