CSA 2020 Week 1

Posted on June 5th, 2020 by Amy Philson

It's finally here!  We know you have been anxiously awaiting our new CSA season with customized shares.  We are really excited about it, too, but we're also a bit nervous about packing more than 200 customized orders every week.

In the boxes:  Because it's still early in the growing season, your boxes will be heavy with greens.  Pennsylvania spring weather is ideal for growing abundant greens, while the crops that yield fruits (zucchini, tomatoes, green beans, etc.) take longer to grow.  You can look forward to more variety in the coming weeks, including strawberries later this month.  Yum!!  You also have the option of swapping for eggs, maple syrup for other items in your boxes.  Keep in mind that if you have an Egg Share, the eggs listed here are additional.

Many of the boxes (especially Mini Shares) have fewer items than we normally include.  That's because in the past we have made smaller bags of greens (which cost less) for the smaller shares while including larger bags (8 oz) in the larger shares.  This week, all of our bags of greens are 8 oz., enough for multiple meals for smaller households.  I can make some smaller bags in future weeks if enough people request it.  It will just be extra steps on my end to separate out the share sizes when building the boxes.  As the season progresses, we will have a wider range of prices for items, so your boxes will have more variety for the dollar value.

Webstore:  Our Webstore is also open at www.nwpagrowers.com/login for additional items.  I will check veggie inventory here on Harvie on Sunday afternoon and move extras to the Webstore, so you will want to customize your share before then if possible.

Survey:  Thanks to our Spring CSA members who filled out the end-of-season survey.  We take your answers to heart as we try to improve our service and products.  The survey is still open if you want to chime in.

Heads-up:  I will be somewhat scarce this weekend via email.  My son and daughter-in-law will likely give birth today or tomorrow, so I will be with them and just checking in to my email periodically.  The Harvie staff is very helpful if you have any questions about how to navigate on the new website.  Or I will reply to emails as I am able.

The photo is our packing line, with Gwen filling a Webstore order.  Besides being a great delivery driver and packer, she is also my oldest daughter.

Have a great weekend!
