CSA Week !!

Posted on June 25th, 2021 by Conrad Cable

Good evening y’all!

We have a great early summer share for y’all this week! The lettuce these final two weeks is some of the best we have ever grown. The summer crisp lettuce grows quickly under the protective shade of our tomatoes and pepper plants. The leaves in the lettuce mix will be larger than normal, because this is the first harvest of this summer variety.

I’m also really excited about the salad mix this week. Baby mustard, baby kale, along with the pea shoots, arugula, and red lettuce have absolutely made it one of the most delicious mixes we grew this season.

This might be the last week for blackberries. We hit peak season, so this week there are fewer available. We harvested a good amount this week for the Monroe and Ruston farmers markets, so catch us there early if you can!

A quick note about the extras this week: it’s the last week for peaches and eggs. We will still carry Smith family’s pastured meat, all the flours, and there is only a few jars left of black trumpet mushrooms! We have made lots of small batch jam, so I’m going to include some of them in with these extras.

I honestly can’t believe we are almost at the end of this CSA season. It has been our longest, largest, and most diverse CSA ever. I will always remember it as the season we became farmers. We are wrapping it up with full fields, an increased confidence in our production abilities, and a clear view of the path towards growing the best food possible for as many people as we can.

Our farm would not be where it is now without all of you. The CSA provides all the funding for growing our farm. Every season we try to make the CSA better, so I have been working on the crop plan for the Fall season. Fall farm shares will begin in September and continue through December. The season will be continuous, but I will plan for the vegetables to change in 3-4 week incriminates. We have had new veggies available each week this season, but I would like for there to be more options like cauliflower, broccoli, cabbage, and beans. We are also going to work with Harvie so that you can swap any of the add ons for veggies in the share, all while keeping the original share value. This change will hopefully help out anyone who gets behind on cooking, and needs a break from fresh veggies, but still wants to support the local food movement.

Your feedback is very important to us. It has helped us make the shares better every season. Included in your shares this week is a survey, plus an envelope with a stamp. If you could please take a few minutes to fill it out and mail it to our farm, it would mean the world to us!

Stay cool,
