Spring planting has officially begun

Posted on March 30th, 2024 by Dave Redfearn

Good Friday was a good planting day for us.  We were able to get a few thousand broccolini transplanted in the ground as well as Napa cabbage, kohlrabi and Swiss Chard.  We also planted the very first of the sweet Italian peppers (those went into a heated high tunnel though).  Many of these crops won't be ready until the very beginning of the Summer CSA season.

Carrots and spinach are looking and tasting incredible.  We need you to stock up on those so we  can harvest them to make room for peppers and tomatoes in the high tunnels.  Within a couple weeks we'll need the space to begin transplanting those warm season crops into these unheated tunnels.  This is the time of the spring dance when we strategically harvest cool season crops to make room for the warm season crops in the high tunnels, begin planting cool season crops outdoors and try to make sure that we don't overlap too much or not enough with the cooler season crops between the high tunnels and outdoors.  Everything depends upon the weather.  Last week was cooler and slowed things down a bit.
