Summer Share: Week 20

Posted on October 15th, 2021 by Lauren and Craig Kreutzer

This Week's Highlights: We're getting ready for the last couple field tasks - garlic planting and hoophouse building. We still haven't had a frost, which means that there are sweet peppers available in this week's shares. Pretty amazing!

What We're Cooking: Our kids are gobbling up the salad turnips. I have plans to make venison stew with the potatoes from Driftless, carrots, celeriac, and rutabaga. Craig's mom made a batch of this roasted butternut soup for the weekend. We've also been enjoying this butternut curry.

From Our Farm Partners: Mushrooms are available from Hidden Valley Mushrooms in the Dells.

Red, yellow, and blue potatoes are available from Driftless Organics.

In addition to the Aronia Juice from Hilltop Community Farm, we have Black Currant Jam with Honey available.

Apple share members will be receiving certified organic Sundance apples. The Sundance apple is a large, juicy, sweet-tart apple with delightful citrus flavor. Winecrisp apples are available for purchase. They are juicy, crisp, and sweet (but not too sweet).

Veggie Forecast: Fall shares are looking bountiful! Storage cabbages will be harvested this week. The fields are still full of fresh greens, brussels sprouts, leeks, and herbs. The hoophouse crops are thriving and will hopefully provide greens into December.

Thank you for joining us for the summer CSA season!
