Fall Share: Week 1

Posted on October 22nd, 2021 by Lauren and Craig Kreutzer

This Week's Highlights: We finished planting our garlic this week, and we set the ground posts for our new hoophouse! The first week of November will be our first week off of CSA deliveries in 25 weeks. We are welcoming the slower pace and shift of work.

What We're Cooking: There is so much good food this time of year! We're savoring the tender herb celery and baby fennels. We'll be making potato salad with the celery and adding some sauteed fennel to our pizza. The fennel is also perfect for raw preparations - like this apple, beet, and fennel salad.

From Our Farm Partners: Red, yellow, and blue potatoes are available from Driftless Organics.

We have just a few jars left of Aronia Juice from Hilltop Community Farm.

The certified organic apples for this week are a variety called Goldrush. They are dense and crisp - tart at harvest but sweetening in storage. They are fizzy on the tongue, with rich, complex spicy flavor. Excellent for fresh eating and baking.

Veggie Forecast: The next fall share delivery will be November 10th. There will continue to be diverse roots, tender greens, and plenty of alliums. Acorn squash will be available next week.
