End of January: Thriving, Not Surviving

Posted on January 22nd, 2024 by Conrad Cable

Embracing the New Season with Fresh Beginnings!

As we wave goodbye to this chilly January, our fields are bursting with life, welcoming an exhilarating start to the 2024 season! This January we set a record number of sales! IN JANUARY! This Tuesday marks a big milestone as we plant our first seeds of the 2024, sowing the foundations of a bountiful Spring harvest. Our efforts over the weekend have prepared two field blocks, ready to nurture transplants of sugar snap peas and an array of salad greens. With lettuce and spinach seeds being sown on Tuesday as well, we're fully embracing this opportune break in the weather. It's going to be warming up fast! We are getting an early start with tomatoes, green beans, and squash--everyone's favorite!

February's Transplants

Looking ahead, February 1st is set to be a landmark day, with thousands of transplants like cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower, radicchio, and bok choy destined for the soil. We're especially thrilled about introducing some vibrant new cultivars, rich in purple hues, promising a rainbow of nutritious delights. Our fingers are crossed for our current cauliflower and broccoli crops to mature swiftly!

This Week's Select Harvests

This week, our fields offer a select harvest of beets, mini Napa cabbages, scallions, and collard greens. With limited availability, these crops will be featured as exclusive add-ons or swaps. Stay tuned for the return of oyster mushrooms next week!

A Shout-Out to 3 Board Farm

Our partners at 3 Board Farm continue to impress with their delectable selections. Taylor and Jadie Underwood extend their heartfelt gratitude to all farm share members for your enthusiastic support of their regenerative farm!

Welcoming New Members

In exciting news, we've welcomed over 60 new farm share members in the last month, bringing our community to a record 130 members! This remarkable growth not only ensures that our home grown produce finds a kitchen table but also solidifies the foundation of our small business. Your support enables us to invest in quality seeds, vital infrastructure, and innovative tools, fueling our passion for sustainable farming for seasons to come.

Our Commitment to You

As first-generation farmers, Kaden and I have grown Current Farms from an open pasture to a flourishing farm. Every structure, irrigation system, and piece of equipment represents the organic growth of our business. This winter season, though challenging, has been a testament to our dedication to continually enhance your farm share experience every single season.

Thank you for being part of our journey. Here's to a season filled with growth, community, and the exceptional produce in North Louisiana!
