Happy Halloween!

Posted on October 29th, 2021 by Conrad Cable

Happy Halloween everyone!

What better way to take a break from the sugar load of this weekend, than with some fresh local vegetables! We have a wonderful share for y'all this week. GREEN BEANS are in plenty supply for every share. I love just nipping the tops and roasting them, or adding whole to a stir fry. Speaking of legumes...pea shoots are back in the salad mix, and by themselves in a container! Also, new this week is mizuna mustard! It's unique leaf shape, and spicy flavor make it really stand out among the mustard varieties. It is a chef favorite. With the giant red mustard, golden frills mustard, and the mizuna mustard available this week, you have a unique the opportunity to visually see, and taste the diversity of the brassicaceae plant family.

Next week, we will have the return of sunflower and radish microgreens in the salad mix! Additionally, we will begin leaving arugula out of the salad mix. The salad mix, after this week, will be comprised of (6 types of lettuce, tatsoi, Toyko bekana, mustard, pea shoots, sunflower shoots, radish microgreens). We will begin offering a mesclun mix (6 types of lettuce, edive, arugula, mustard greens). This is a traditional French salad blend, that is more spicy and slightly more bitter than the salad mix. Basil is back, but just remember to prepare it as soon as possible for the best quality!

Recently, I have decided to put more effort into content creation on our social media. On Instagram, look for live videos, breaking down the weekly vegetable options for the farm shares. On Facebook, we have been getting great traction with reels. I just sorted through more than 500 videos taken over the past year. There's great material! I look forward to being creative, and telling some of our farm stories through that medium. Give us a follow to learn more about how we grow food for your shares!

This week, we are going to be at the Flying Tiger Farmers Market on Thursday, November 4th from 6-8 PM. We will also be at the Ruston Farmers Market every Saturday from 9-1. You can find all of our jams at Mercantile Monroe on Walnut Street in downtown Monroe! The black mission fig jam will not last long!

As always, I hope y'all cook something delish this week! Next week, I will try and include the recipe for the kohlrabi ramen that Delia made! Y'all have been blowing up my DMs for how to prepare that dish! I'm always so happy to see what y'all cook with our veggies, thank you all for sharing!

Sincerely,

Your local farmer
