Fall CSA Week 1

Posted on September 16th, 2021 by Conrad Cable

Hello members!

We are excited to get this Fall season started! This has been a busy summer for us. We finished some much needed infrastructure projects, and focused on a good crop plan to make this a great CSA season for all you.

This week, we are beginning harvests of some tasty root vegetables. Y'all can choose from rainbow radishes (mix of 6 types), French breakfast radishes, and salad turnips. There will also be lots of leafy greens, like always!

***Our salad mix is short on lettuce for a month. We have really struggled with germination, but thanks to CSA member, Ron, we have a small light station for inside germination. We transplanted 2000 heads this week, so it will be back soon!

Greens will include salad mix, arugula, baby mustard greens, bok choys and chives.

Additionally, we will have a few containers hot peppers up for grabs- a mix of alapenos, habaneros, capertinos, and cayenne.

This season, you can swap vegetables for any of our jam, jelly, or pickles, plus any products we carry from other local farms. Jams up for swap will be the Berry Best (blend of mayhaw, strawberry, blackberry), hot honey pepper jam (Stowe Creek honey, jalapenos, capertinos, habaneros, and red lanterns), peach blueberry jam, and blackberry pear jam.

We proudly partner with Stowe Creek Farm for their amazing honey and fresh eggs. There's also grits, corn meal, and rice flour available from Joywalk Daylily Garden. Over the next few weeks, we will feature swaps from them like pumpkins and winter squash!

I'm really looking forward to this CSA season. The customization window will be different a bit shorter for our Thursday folks, I do apologize for that! This Friday, your normal customization period will be back to Friday-Sunday.

If you are home delivery, please leave out an ice chest to ensure your vegetables stay as fresh as possible. Thank you all for supporting our farm! Don't forget that we have a great referral promotion that saves you money and helps us grow. The link is on your Harvie profile. If you haven't followed us on Facebook or Instagram, give us a like to experience the daily life and work that we do on the farm.

Cook something good now, ya'hear!?

Best,
