Farm Happenings for May 7 and 9th, 2020

Posted on May 2nd, 2020 by Dave Redfearn

Well, we got that first week under our belts!  A few hiccups along the way, but we think it went fairly smoothly on our end!  We're still getting the hang of packing boxes up front, and several of you have let us know of items missing in your boxes.  Please do let us know if that happens!  We'll make it up to you and we need to know so we can get better.  We've been farming for quite some time, but packing hundreds of one-of-a-kind custom boxes each week is a new challenge for us.  Again, we apologize if we missed something in your box!

Just want to go over the protocol for missed share pickups.  If you weren't able to make the delivery location in time, no worries!  Life happens!  What we'll do is bring your share back to our farm and put it in the walk in cooler that looks like a shed next to the house.  You can come by anytime between 7AM and 7PM to pick it up.  Just make sure to leave the empty crate outside and close the cooler door securely.  If you don't pick it up by Noon Monday, we'll donate it to After the Harvest who will distribute the shares to the needy.  So if you are too busy to come pick  it up, at least you'll know your veggies are going to a good place.

Things are really heating up outside!  We've been planting OUTDOOR tomatoes!  We cover them with mini greenhouses so we can plant them early and keep them safe during the cool nights of May.  The big planting of outdoor sugar snap peas are growing nicely but not flowering yet.  The second and third rounds of greenhouse sugar snap peas ARE FLOWERING, so the peas will be increasing over the next few weeks!  Still lots of greens and roots.  Hope you try the salad turnips.  They are fabulous and are really at their prime right now!

It was really great to greet familiar and sometimes masked faces this week and to meet so many new members too!  We feel tremendously blessed to be able to feed your families!  It is such an honor to do this!  I'm so glad that just 1 year ago, I quit my corporate job so I could focus on growing your food full-time!  Good timing for a pandemic, huh?  We feel blessed to have the opportunity to feed so many of you and we really look forward to getting to know you better!

And can I just say, WOW, for the private CSA facebook group!  You guys rock!  So inspiring to all of us!  We love seeing what you are doing with our veggies!  THANK YOU!!!

Your farmers,

Dave and Sheri
