All Natural Bug Control!

Posted on September 17th, 2019 by Noah Sanders

Bugs can definitely be an issue in the vegetable garden. One of the insects we struggle with is horn worms on tomato plants. Moths come and lay their eggs on the leaves of the tomato plant and their voracious young decimate the greenery of the tomato plant. But God's creation is about balance and this year we saw it in action as yellow garden spiders moved into the grow tunnel where the tomatoes are located. They threw up their webs and began feasting on the moths, butterflies, and squash bugs that were in the tunnel! They now have egg sacs laid in the corners of the structure and I hope their young sticks around to help us out in the spring time. The key thing I noticed was that the spiders didn't move in until there was a food source. So if I had sprayed a bunch of stuff to kill all the bugs like some growers the spiders would have never had an incentive to come. So we are slowly but surely beginning to learn and appreciate how to work with God's creation as we grow nutrient-dense food for your family!
