Happy Chickens

Posted on June 4th, 2019 by Noah Sanders

The weather has been hot and dry here on the farm, and we have been thankful for irrigation in the gardens. This week I am setting out sweet potato plants!

The eggs in your Farmship Bags are raised by my cousin, Luke, and his family. They have a new, small farm (Shipbrook Farm) a couple miles down the road from Rora Valley Farms, although they still raise most of the chickens here on this farm since we have more land and facilities.

The happy hens have portable 'chicken wagons' where they sleep and lay eggs. They are are moved around the farm where they can venture out and forage in the pastures and woods. Additionally, they are fed a non-gmo whole grain feed from a local mill. Great Pyrenees guard dogs help protect again all the predators. We think that hens that have such a happy life make delicious eggs!
