Summer Share: Week 17

Posted on September 24th, 2021 by Lauren and Craig Kreutzer

This Week's Highlights: Happy fall! We are feeling the shift of the seasons. As I type, Craig is working on clearing out the hoophouse in preparation for planting our late fall greens and roots. The cooler is beginning to fill up with crops for the fall and winter. Beets are all harvested, and we harvested 1200 row feet of carrots yesterday and washed all of them this morning.

What We're Cooking: I found another soup recipe! This Loaded Cauliflower Soup is on our to-make list.

From Our Farm Partners: We are excited to have yellow potatoes from Driftless Organics. We discerned not to grow storage potatoes this year, after 5 seasons of mediocre yields. Driftless grows amazing organic potatoes, and we will have yellow, red, and blue potatoes available throughout the rest of the CSA season.

Aronia Juice and Aronia Jam are available from Hilltop Community Farm in LaValle. The juice is 100% Steam Extracted Aronia Juice with a hint of organic sugar. Farmer Erin recommends enjoying a morning sip of this superfruit, adding to your smoothie, or pairing with sparkling water or spirits.

Apple share members will be receiving certified organic Suncrisp apples. Suncrisp apples are juicy, crisp, high in sugar and acid with a tropical flavor.

Veggie Forecast: You can look forward to winter squash available in the rest of this season's shares. The greens look beautiful - salad mix and spinach will be making a return soon.

Happy eating!
