Summer Share: Week 14

Posted on September 3rd, 2021 by Lauren and Craig Kreutzer

This Week's Highlights: We settled into cleaning alliums - with the red cippolini onions making an appearance in this week's shares. Tomatoes continue to be bountiful, but the plants are beginning to decline. Cover crops that were planted a week ago are sprouting and greening up. We are still planting - salad mix, lettuces, mesclun mix, and spinach were seeded and transplanted this week.

What We're Cooking: We are excited to see the return of broccoli. With the cooler weather, I've been roasting more veggies. The rainbow carrots are amazing roasted, and so is the broccoli. Tomato preservation is a priority right now. I roast and freeze the seconds qualilty tomatoes for our winter soups and sauces. I've also been cutting in half and dehydrating the cocktail tomatoes. This small gems will add much flavor to our winter!

Veggie Forecast: We expect to have tomatoes for a few more weeks, but production will continue to decline with the cooler temperatures. The cooler temperatures are great for our fall brassicas. Napa and sweetheart cabbages are about ready for harvest. Broccoli is in full swing with cauliflower and romanesco on the way.
