Summer Share: Week 17

Posted on September 21st, 2019 by Lauren and Craig Kreutzer

Another week, another adventure! Thursday morning, we lost our phone, internet, coolbot (our cooler), and some lights when lightning struck somewhere on the farm. The cooler and lights are fixed, but we are without phone and internet until Monday morning when a tech can come fix it. We did find where the lightning struck - a t-post in our pepper field. I you are attending our Harvest Party tomorrow, the lightning strike will be a stop on our self-guided tour. (Bring shoes that you don't mind getting a little muddy!)

The rest of the week was full of harvest and cleaning vegetables. We harvested one of three beds of our fall carrots. They look beautiful, taste amazing, and yielded bountifully. We'll be enjoying these beauties into the depth of winter. We also dug the first of our sweet potatoes. They are curing in the greenhouse. With high heat and humidity, the sweet potatoes will become more sweet and the skins will harden. You'll be seeing these in your shares on Week 19 and Week 20.

Enjoy these last few official days of the summer season. Next week, autumn is here!

Your Farmers,
Craig and Lauren
