Spring Share: Week 2

Posted on May 9th, 2020 by Lauren and Craig Kreutzer

This past week has flown by. I cannot believe that I am sending out another CSA email already! We spent Thursday preparing for the cold - covering tender greens and freshly germinated crops with row cover. We had a cold snap like this last year. It is amazing how resilient plants are. The forecast is showing lows in the 50s later this week. The plants (and your farmers) are ready for that!

We are offering mushrooms from Hidden Valley Mushrooms this week. You can choose to add White Button, Crimini, and/or Shiitakes to your CSA share. Mary and her family grow mushrooms in the Dells. She suggests to store the mushrooms in your fridge in the paper bag. Eat soon; they are fresh, lovely and perishable. You will have the opportunity to order from Hidden Valley once per month throughout the CSA season.

The highlights of this week's share are the fennel and salad turnips. The fennel is beautiful and fragrant. We're looking forward to cooking up some pasta with caramelized fennel and sausage for tonight's dinner. (You can find the recipe here: https://www.onegirlonekitchen.com/caramelized-fennel-and-sausage-pasta/

Salad turnips may be my favorite spring vegetable. They are mild, tender, and crisp. Perfect for snacking, salads, or sandwiches. You can also add them to stir-fry or roast them.

Be well, and eat your veggies!
