Farm Happenings for July 7, 2022

Posted on July 3rd, 2022 by Emily Tzeng

Welcome to Week 6 of CSA season!

Gentle reminder: Please pick up your CSA shares within the pick up time period. Our pick location partners are generous enough to let us use their space and we need to accommodate their needs and stick to the time frame that we agreed to at the beginning of the season. Thank you!

Despite the rainy and overcast weather of this weekend, we are moving into summer! Cukes, basil, squash, beans are all available this week! Peas are winding down and we are down to the last few weeks for garlic scapes! We finished our huge radicchio seeding for the fall and started flipping the fields and tunnels around to prepare for fall/winter crops.

Its still peak salad season and I have been told that I make delicious salad dressings. Here is one of our go to dressings that is great for both leafy salads or heartier grain/bean salads. I usually make a double batch and use it throughout the week! Blend in more tahini or sour cream or silken tofu to make a thick dip for veggies or as a sauce for cold roast chicken, etc.

Creamy Herb Dressing

In a blender combine:

1/4 cup citrus juice (plus a bit of citrus zest, if you want)

1/4 cup vinegar (apple cider or wine)

1/4 cup tahini or sour cream or buttermilk or silken tofu

1/2 cup olive oil

2 tablespoons herbs (basil, cilantro, parsley, fennel tops, etc.)

1-2 garlic cloves or garlic scapes

salt/pepper/pinch of sugar or honey to taste

Crew Introductions:

We are so happy to have Juniper back for another season!

Juniper Woods, he/him
Hometown: Fairfax, VA
Years Farming: 4 years working on farms here in the PNW
Fav Veggie: It's so hard to pick a favorite, but I've been LOVING the snap peas this season. It's all about that crunch!!!

My favorite thing about farming is how I am constantly learning. I am never bored as there are always new challenges, ways I can improve how I'm doing things, and opportunities to deepen my knowledge of plants and people.

My guilty pleasure is watching Ru Paul's Drag Race with my bestie and pretending we are judges critiquing everyone's runway looks. (We are currently rooting for Monét X Change.....)
