Farm Happenings for July 15, 2021

Posted on July 12th, 2021 by Emily Tzeng

Hello and welcome to week 8 of the season!

TACOMA PICK UP CHANGES:

If you pick up in Tacoma, we are switching to Gather Juice Co, next door to Field, as they renovate. You should have received another email with pick up details.

We are slowly unburying ourselves from the enormous to do list, post HeatDome, and are planting furiously for the fall and winter months this week. This week, we are mowing down spring crops that are finished and starting to prep beds for all of the late season crops. Last plantings of summer squash, cucumbers, and beans are going in (ready for September harvests) and we even have seeded the first veggies of next April/May this week (purple sprouting broccoli, overwintered cauliflower.) We are also doing a heavy pruning on tomatoes to get them to ripen fast (first small picking this week, then soon a lot more to share) and trellising the peppers to keep them tidy.

Thanks for everyone who has assisted in garlic harvest (see image.) We bought in around almost 6000 heads of garlic over the last few weeks! I feel very responsible for growing 75 families worth of garlic and am overall really stoked about this year's crop, so please enjoy it!
