Sweet Potatoes, Satsumas, and Carrots Are Here!

Posted on December 4th, 2023 by Conrad Cable

This week, Kaden and I are excited to share with you a selection of produce that's not just fresh from the field, but also directly inspired by your feedback from our recent survey. We see every season as an opportunity to improve our online experience, and your feedback helped us find some solutions that will make our farm shares better, starting this week!

Exciting New Additions This Week:

  • Louisiana Satsumas: By popular demand, these juicy fruits are now part of our selection until January!
  • Oak Grove Sweet Potatoes: Another addition inspired by your feedback, these sweet potatoes are a culinary delight grown in Oak Grove, LA.
  • Red Beets: Earthy and sweet, ideal for roasting or adding to salads.
  • Baby Carrots: Sweet and tender, perfect for snacking, roasting, or adding to soups and stews.

This Week's Star Selections:

  • Mesclun Mix and Arugula: Let's get tossed! These crisp, peppery notes are perfect for a lively salad, perhaps drizzled with a balsamic reduction and sprinkled with toasted nuts.
  • Komatsuna (Japanese Spinach): This leafy wonder, with its sweet undertones, makes for an excellent addition to your stir-fries.
  • Colorful Daikon Radishes: Add a pop of color and crunch to your meals with these radishes. Think of a vibrant slaw or a quick pickle to accompany your main dishes.
  • Red Russian Kale and Collard Greens: These are your go-to for a heartwarming, nutritious stew or a side sautéed with a hint of garlic and a dash of your favorite vinegar.
  • Braising Greens Mix: Envision these greens melting into a rich, garlicky broth, alongside a succulent piece of pork or beef - comfort food at its finest.
  • Leaf Fennel: With its slightly sweet and licorice-like flavor, leaf fennel is a great addition to salads or as a unique flavor in cooked dishes.

Culinary Pairings and Suggestions:

  • Persimmons: Try them in tarts, cookies, or bread for a sweet and unique flavor.
  • Sweet Dill Pickles: Add to sandwiches or use in potato salad for a delightful twist.
  • Marinara Sauce: Perfect with pasta or as a base for other Italian dishes.
  • Jams: Pair with cheeses for a sweet and savory combination, or use as glazes for meats.

From Your Feedback to Our Fields:

Your amazing responses to our survey have not only shaped this week's selections, but also ignited our passion to provide you with even more culinary guidance. Acknowledging that cooking with whole foods can be a delightful challenge, we're introducing a new, weekly recipe and pairing guide, sent out every Friday, to inspire your kitchen creations and boost your confidence in home cooking.

Let's dive into the joys of cooking with whole foods together. Imagine the aromas wafting through your kitchen as you explore new recipes, the satisfaction of a perfectly paired dish, and the stories shared around your table. This journey is about more than just food; it's about community, connection, and the love that goes into every meal and the story of how it came to your family's table.

Stay tuned for this Friday's inaugural recipe guide, and get ready to transform your farm-fresh produce into culinary masterpieces.

Thank you for being a vital part of our farm family. Your support, feedback, and enthusiasm are the heartbeats of Current Farms.
