Farm Shares in February!

Posted on February 1st, 2023 by Conrad Cable

Good morning farm share members! We have a great selection of farm fresh veggies, plus some fantastic farm goods for you this week! Rainbow radishes are back! I love these radishes--the colorful mix not only tastes great, but looks amazing on a plate! We harvested the last of the purple daikon radishes this week, and I'm awfully sad to see those go. Eggs are back in a big way this week, so there should be plenty available if you have been wanting to add those to your share! We have only a few flavors of jam left in stock, but they have been some of our most popular! The elderflower apple jam is one of my favorites, and I added the last jars of our nectarine jelly batch. We are completely out of nectarines in the freezer, so these are the last jars until Summer.

Farm Update

The weather the past week has not been the best. The cold isn't too bothersome, but trudging through the mud gets really old. We planted thousands of transplants on Saturday, so we spent a lot of time on Monday and Tuesday deploying row cover over most of our crops, including all of the new plantings. We didn't quite wrap up harvesting all of our outdoor crops yesterday. However, there is nothing like harvesting in cold rain and wind to make a farmer grateful to harvest and work under the cover of a protective tunnel.

Folks typically think that rain stops work on a farm, but there is always something to do! Rainy days are a great opportunity to focus on work inside of our caterpillar tunnels. We also spend rainy days sowing seeds in trays for crops like lettuce, bok choy, cabbage, onions, and dozens more veggies. There's cleaning, computer work (I know I need to work on update ALL of the product photos on Harvie), jam making, microgreen production, crop planning, and a whole host of other jobs that need doing to keep the farm running. In fact, rainy days are some of the busiest days on the farm!

I hope that all of you stay safe during this upcoming weather! If the weather has any impact on the Friday deliveries, I will be sure to let you! Thank you so much for supporting our farm.

Sincerely,

Conrad Cable
