Farm Happenings for November 14, 2020

Posted on November 4th, 2020 by Lorien Carsey

Here we are planting garlic in the dreamy warm November days last week. We planted 75% more garlic this year so that we don’t sell out for our CSA after two months. Next year, we will add the extra 25% to double our garlic planting. Can’t get enough.

The indoor market started last week. The Blue Moon stand will be right in the middle of the mall. If you are picking up your share from inside, you must enter through the main entrance on the South side between Stango and the IDEA store. You will see us down the walkway. Our CSA boxes will be behind our market stand. They will be arranged in alphabetical order of last name with tags on all the boxes showing your name. Please remove your veggies from the box into your own containers and then you are done. We’ll take the boxes back to the farm.

If you selected the Contact Free pickup. You will park in the lot directly to the South of the entrance to the back hallway of the Food Coop. There is a photo in your confirmation email. We will have all your shares stacked in that hallway to be delivered, so it will speed things up if you go to the correct parking lot. You must have a sign in the car window facing North with your last name in HUGE BLACK letters so that our runner can very easily see your name. When you arrive and park, text 217-372-6919 stating the color and make of your car, your last name, and your location. For example the text could read, “Blue Chevy pickup truck.  Carsey. East side of lot facing east.”  This is a whole new system we are trying, so be patient with us. If it turns out that the pickup is too slow or chaotic, we are going to ask folks to self-organize, with the those whose last names begin with letters in the first half of the alphabet coming from 9-10, and those in the second half coming from 10-11am.

If there are folks new to the Harvie system of customization, email us at bluemoonfarmurbana@gmail.com if you have any trouble. We’ll work it out. The customization period ends on Wednesday at 8pm, so you have three days to decide how many bags of carrots you can really eat. They are very sweet.
