Farm Happenings for November 21, 2020

Posted on November 12th, 2020 by Lorien Carsey

I didn’t have a good photo so I showed off Cindy, the farm dog. Pretty sweet.

Congratulations on a mostly succcessful Saturday pickup. I think I’ve addressed all the mistakes, but if there was a mistake or problem with either your pickup location or your box and I haven’t contacted you, feel free to email bluemoonfarmurbana@gmail.com.

For the Contact-Free pickup folks, I got feedback and ideas on how to make that process speedier.

  • 1st: please park in the right lot. The lot is not the one to the south of the main doors where the main market entrance is. It’s the lot to the east of that, where the entrance to the coop dining hall is. We will have an a-frame Blue Moon sign in front of the lot where you need to park on Saturday to help.
  • Also, if your name sign is smaller than an 8.5x11 sheet, please make a new one with Huge letters that can be seen from 50’ away. That helps the runners.
  • Lastly, please text first and last names. It didn’t occur to me that some folks share last names, which causes snafus if we don’t have first and last names on the text.

This week we have lots of broccoli, which is fleeting this time of year. so make some roasted broccoli! We do it frequently. With both Italian broccoli, and broccoli heads we toss them in generous amounts of olive oil, sprinkle with salt, and pop them under the broiler at 550 degrees for around 10-12 minutes, turning them over once. It should be a single layer so they get evenly roasted. For broccoli heads, we cut them into chunks. We like them to have a little bit of a crispy char on both sides. Divine.

As always, email us with questions or concerns: bluemoonfarmurbana@gmail.com. It always helps if you try to answer your question first by logging in to your account and poking around.

Thank you!
