Farm Happenings for July 15, 2020: Fruits of Summer are Coming On

Posted on July 10th, 2020 by Lorien Carsey

Hi all,

Above is a shot of Ender and Sam dragging out dusty row covers to lay across our unseeded carrot fields in anticipation of the storm. We are germinating weeds that can be flamed off ahead of our seeding next week. It was a brutally hot and dirty job and gave me so much gratitude for the goodwill and humor they displayed. Now some housekeeping:

  • Everyone who bought a fruit share should be seeing a refund. Let us know if you don't see it.
  • We ran out of garlic scapes on Tuesday and some of you got freshly harvested garlic instead. We hope you enjoyed the strong flavor.
  • Great job on the car signs folks! Extra points for those who tape them to the windshield and use a thick black marker such that the names can be read from a distance.

Here's some info about the crops you'll be seeing and not seeing in your boxes.

We are going to have fewer leafies for a while. The bunching greens are slowing down in the heat. This will be our last week of broccoli and scallions until the fall. As we move forward the summer fruits will start to shine: peppers, eggplant, tomatoes, and summer squashes. We have cabbage that is in storage, and will have beets in storage as well. Garlic and onions will be harvested next week. While they dry down, we will sell some of them fresh. This means they haven't cured yet, so they won't store as long as what you are used to, but they will be nice and juicy.

We hope everyone is staying cool and safe. Thank you as always for your support!
