This week we have some wonderful all-natural ground pork from hogs raised right here in my community by my cousin Luke! These hogs have lived outside and foraged on pasture and in the forest. I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving! My family went and visited Dorothy's family in south Georgia where we enjoyed lots of good food, card games, shopping, a family skeet shoot, movie nights, and a gender reveal party for a soon to arrive nephew! But we are glad to be home now.
It was such a blessing to take a walk through the gardens yesterday and see such a rainbow of produce in the midst of all the quiet dormancy of winter. And all of this without any artificial heat. We are growing cold tolerant roots and greens and using frost protection that takes advantage of the solar heat during the day. We don't need to ship in produce from all across the country when we can grow fresh veggies year round right here in Alabama!
Today I plan to work on setting out the rest of the fall transplants I started for an early spring harvest. If we want to keep harvesting we must keep planting!
