Saving Seeds for Local Adaption

Posted on September 27th, 2021 by Noah Sanders

We will be having a delivery this Thursday, September 30th (my 33rd birthday!). You will have until Tuesday, September 28th (my daughter's 3rd birthday!) at 11:59 PM to edit or skip your share this week.

Today I was planting some frisee endive that we grew from seed we saved this spring. In addition to reducing outside inputs saving our own seeds helps allow each particular variety to adapt to the unique climate and challenges of our region. Most seeds you order come from the northern part of the country so they are less adapted to Alabama. God has given each plant variety the ability to pass on genetic instructions to their offspring based on the experiences it had as it grew. So each generation can hone the variety's ability to thrive and produce healthier food for you and me!
