Beginnings

Posted on June 3rd, 2022 by Danielle *Allen

The first full week of June has arrived and so we begin our Summer CSA Shares. We're so excited to bring you fresh, delicious organic vegetables from our fields over the next 21 weeks. We're amazed and humbled as we enter our 10th year farming on this land because many of you, our dedicated CSA members, have been with us from the very beginning. We're so grateful for your support and we're delighted that we can continue to do this important work of growing good food for our community and caring for the land and soil.

The weather has been warmer than usual this past month so we have an abundant crop of asparagus, tons of leafy greens, and our earliest crop of cucumbers ever, ready for your first share this week. Time to whip up some simple salad dressings and eat a big green salad with every meal! Our asparagus season only lasts about 5 more weeks, so now is the time to enjoy this unique vegetable while it's in season.

We hope that you'll use the swap and add on features to customize your box. If you find that you're not getting the right mix of things in your box, then check back in with your preferences and make adjustments. We want this system to work so you can really make the most of your vegetables and nothing goes to waste.

Familiarize yourself with what grows when.

If you're new to seasonal eating, it's a good idea to get familiar with what kinds of foods to expect when, so you can pace your anticipation. Asparagus in June, tomatoes and peppers starting in July, watermelons in August, winter squash in late September, and so on. Also, check out our recipe pages on the root5farm website from time to time for new ideas on how to prepare vegetables that may be unfamiliar.

We want to hear your feedback.
The contents of our boxes are guaranteed. If for any reason, you're dissatisfied with the quality of an item, we happily offer a credit on your CSA account. We take pride in the freshness and quality of the vegetables we grow and deliver to you. Since we're dealing with highly perishable items, there's bound to be spoilage at one time or another. We invite members to give us feedback right away if something is amiss.

We've got a busy week ahead, taking care of all of our newly planted seedlings, pruning tomatoes and cucumbers, and harvesting for your shares! Let us know how your first share goes!
