Summer Solstice

Posted on June 22nd, 2020 by Danielle *Allen

June 20, 2020 was the longest day of the year, the peak of sunlight in our part of the world. Solstice comes from the Latin words sol, meaning Sun and sistere, meaning stand still. This is a significant turning point in the vegetable farming season as we're shifting through this period of lush vegetative growth and now on to the ripening of the fruits. Our asparagus season has come to an end and now we can celebrate the fruits of summer- cucumbers, tomatoes, summer squash, peppers, and eggplant- are all beginning to size up and ripen!
